UGGP News Social Media Advisory

Global News. Clear Insights. Trusted Analysis.

Social media is an integral part of UGGP News’s outreach — a platform for sharing our journalism, highlighting research, and engaging with the global policy community. To protect the integrity of our brand and the reputation of our contributors, UGGP expects all editorial staff, contributors, and affiliates to use social media responsibly, in ways that reflect our values of independence, credibility, and civility.

The following five guiding principles should be observed by all those associated with UGGP News:

1. Do No Harm

Your social media presence is your personal space, but it is not separate from your professional identity. Posts, comments, and interactions online can reflect directly on UGGP News. Even with disclaimers, your words and actions may influence how the organization is perceived.

2. Maintain Professional Decorum

Your conduct online should reflect the same professionalism expected offline. If a remark would be unacceptable in a meeting, interview, or conference, it is not acceptable on social media. Harassment, abusive attacks, or threats of violence in any form are strictly prohibited.

3. Remember: Personal ≠ Private

Social media is not private. Posts can be amplified far beyond intended audiences. Contributors must exercise civility, avoid impulsive commentary, and refrain from ad hominem attacks against individuals or organizations. Pause before posting — civility is essential to credibility.

4. Respect the Line Between Banter and Trolling

Tone matters. What begins as humor can easily be perceived as disrespect or hostility. Language that constitutes hate speech or discrimination based on race, religion, ideology, gender, or orientation is strictly forbidden. Contributors must maintain a standard of dialogue appropriate to the seriousness of the platform.

5. Protect Your Reputation — and Ours

Social media can elevate your voice and expand the reach of your work. But reckless or unprofessional posts can undermine your credibility as a journalist, researcher, or analyst — and by extension, the reputation of UGGP News. Treat social media as an extension of your professional persona.

Accountability & Enforcement

All contributors, advisers, and affiliates of UGGP News are expected to uphold these principles. An internal review panel will address violations of these guidelines. The organization reserves the right to take corrective action — including suspension or termination of association — against individuals whose conduct breaches these standards.
